Dr Zweig has successfully accomplished a most important, but long-neglected task; the translation into English of Kant’s philosophical correspondence. His translation is especially welcome at this time in view of the recent revival of interest in the critical philosophy amongst English-speaking philosophers. The letters in this collection, dating from 1759 to 1799, include virtually all his letters on philosophy, plus a number of those which he received from his friends and colleagues. Other letters contain his views on such subjects as (...) mathematics, astronomy, theology, education and morality. In a very useful introduction, Dr Zweig briefly reviews the topics under discussion and describes some of the issues and personalities involved. The index is satisfactory. (shrink)
